We understand that coming to the CAC can feel overwhelming. Our staff provides a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment where children and their non-offending caregivers can feel understood, guided, and cared for throughout the process.

Intake
• Prior to your child’s appointment, a CAC advocate will contact the parent or caregiver by phone to explain the process, gather demographic information, learn about your child’s needs, and answer any questions you may have.
• This call helps us prepare for your visit and ensures you and your child know what to expect.
Arrival at the Center
• When you arrive, your family will be greeted by an advocate who will walk you through the center and bring you to the family waiting area.
• The child and caregiver will meet the Forensic Interviewer, and your child will be offered the chance to see the interview room ahead of time to help them feel more comfortable.
During the Forensic Interview
• When the Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) is ready, the Forensic Interviewer will escort your child to the interview room.
• Caregivers remain in the family waiting area during the interview.
• Once the interview is finished, the child returns to the waiting area with the interviewer.
After the Interview
• MDT members (such as law enforcement, DCFS, and CAC staff) will meet with the caregiver to discuss next steps, answer questions, and offer guidance.
• The advocate will also provide referrals for counseling, medical services, community resources, or other supports based on the family’s needs.
Follow-Up Support
• After your visit, the advocate will follow up within 48 hours to check in, offer additional support, and make sure your family has everything you need.
• The advocate will continue to contact the family monthly for the duration of the case, providing consistent updates, emotional support, and help navigating services.
